The bobber - 50 years of trimming people

June 4, 1962
Why do I drive to Wonder Lake for a haircut?

Well, $7.50 has something to do with it. That's Bob Anderson's price for senior citizens. I didn't ask him at what age a man is a "senior citizen", but I'm pretty sure that I've reached it.

Another reason, for others, is Bob's $8.00 price for everybody else.

Yet another reason is Bob's very active work to abolish townships in Illinois. Bob is not afraid to take a stand on an issue and talk about it. He doesn't just cut hair and listen; he'll give you his 2¢ worth. Actually, Bob will give you about a buck's worth.

And he'll give you his opinion on other issues, too. That's Bob.

A photo and plaque on one wall of the barbershop commemorates opening day, June 4, 1962. A little quick math - that's more than 50 years ago. Bob Anderson has been cutting hair for 50 years.

Somebody ought to drop by the barbershop and try to identify the five kids seated, waiting for their haircuts. Wouldn't it be neat to surprise Bob with a visit by all five?

At the shop today one customer presented a certificate for a free haircut that Bob had donated to a fundraiser. The customer tried to pay Bob, even though he had purchased the free haircut, and Bob declined to accept the money. Bob's a man of honor and integrity.

Thanks for trimming so many people so well for so long, Bob. You're Number One!

No, "I" am not in jail, but FirstElectricNewspaper.com is reporting this morning that eight inmates of the McHenry County Jail scarfed up $33,000 in unemployment benefits from the Great State of Illinois.

With the massive power of the internet, how does this happen? Did no one suspect that some criminal might be collecting unemployment benefits?

And why wasn't there, before now, an interface between County Jail records and IDES?

Not just for this $33,000 but for the $2,000,000 paid as unemployment benefits to inmates in the state.

Undersheriff Andy Zinke explains it: "there's no mechanism to report it."

Jail records are public information, easily accessible from the internet. IDES could certainly check. How public are IDES records? Are State of Illinois unemployment payment records open to the public?

What if the counties fed the names of inmates weekly to a database, and then IDES made the comparison? A $35,000/year clerk or $100 worth of computer time would find the matches. It doesn't take a super-nerd to figure that out.

Thieves steal truck filters - just for the platinum?

To contact us Click HERE
It's always easy to close the barn door after the horse has been stolen...

Thursday morning's Northwest Herald reported the theft of 26 diesel engine filters from trucks parked on the Bull Valley Ford parking lot last week-end.

So, let's see. The theft is discovered on Monday morning. Readers hear about it on Thursday morning.

An estimated $100,000 worth of diesel particulate filters were filched. The owner of Bull Valley Ford said the filters weigh about 100 pounds each and that the thieves had to be pros. He was quoted as wondering how thieves could physically steal that many, that quickly.

OK, so how quickly? Did they steal one filter from each of 26 trucks? How long does it take to remove one? What "power tools" were needed? Were the trucks locked? Were engine compartments accessible without unlocking the trucks? What is the physical size of the filter? How large a truck was probably needed to haul those 26 100-lb. filters away? How much platinum can be salvaged from each filter?

Pneumatic tools? They make noise.

The theft is thought to have occurred overnight on Saturday. How did they arrive at that (and not overnight Sunday)? The thefts were discovered, when an employee attempted to start a truck on Monday morning.

The article reported, "Police agencies in southern Wisconsin have recorded similar thefts."

What "southern Wisconsin" police agencies? Were McHenry County truck dealerships or law enforcement agencies alerted?

Even with this major theft, it might not set a record in Woodstock. Each month the Woodstock Police report Stolen Property Value and Recovered Property Value to the City Manager, for forwarding to the City Council.

In the past 4 1/2 years the month with the largest Stolen Property Value was February 2009, when that number hit $152,019. The highest stolen property months since then were October 2010 ($67,939), May 2011 $68,657, and June 2012 ($73,053).

How much property has been stolen in 4 1/2 years? $1,507,343 (an average of $28,987/month).

How much property is recovered? 17%, on the average.

Since April 2008 $255,746 has been recovered (an average of $4,918/month).

42. The Unofficial St. Patrick's day in Champaign Urbana

If you have been anywhere near the campustown on certain Fridays in March, and come up with a huge throng of greenish looking leprechauns, don't start pinching yourself to see if you are dreaming or not. You have just stumbled into the "Unofficial Saint Patrick's Day" in Chambana.

Here is what UofI wiki has to say about it:

Unofficial Saint Patrick's Day, or commonly known as Unofficial, is a local event on the Urbana-Champaign campus, which aims to replace the celebration of the official Saint Patrick's Day holiday with excessive drinking of alcohol.

Champaign bar owner Scott Cochrane created the event to increase business because the week of spring break on the academic calendar usually includes Saint Patrick's Day, which leads students to celebrate away from the campus.

The event is celebrated usually the weekend before the official Saint Patrick's Day holiday. Bars might open as early as 7 a.m., and students wear T-shirts with slogans such as "Drink 'til you're Irish" or "Irish I were drunk." One T-shirt slogan read: "Tap the keg, forget the class... it's Unofficial, so fill my glass!"

Things are not really as rosey as the above note suggests. On this day, you'll find a lot of underage drinkers, passed out here and there, or coming to class drunk. The police (Champaign, Urbana, County, and of course UofI ones) have a field day ... and nab a lot of underage drinkers.

However, things can often get deadly ... a few years ago, a UofI alumnus died when the motor bike she was riding crashed into a pole on Wright street between Green and Springfield. So, be careful when you are driving through campustown , better avoid going through the area altogether.

There is of course, the "official" Saint Patrick's day, but the drinking frenzy is much less on that one.

Ah dim sum. I don't get to have it often because the bf doesn't like small dishes...pshhh! Well that's what friends are for! One of my friends took me to Mark's Duck House - her favorite spot for Sunday dim sum. The restaurant has been around for over 20 years serving Hong Kong-style cuisine. As their name suggests, they are known for their Peking Duck. However, we didn't get a chance to try it.
Located in a shopping center, there is plenty of free parking, but it can get crowded.

This place is smaller than other restaurants that offer dim sum, so it was PACKED! We took a number when we got through the crowd waiting by the door.

They offered many of the same dishes I'm used to seeing as well as some different items. Sorry guys, but I don't have prices for any of these items because they were in Chinese. All dishes are between $2.50 - $7.50 though.

1. Pan-Fried Chives Dumpling - Out of all the dumplings, this was my favorite.
2. Shrimp and Pork Dumpling (Shiu Mai)
3. Shrimp and Pork Dumpling
4. Shrimp Dumpling (Har Gao)

5. Fried Taro Dumpling - One of my favorite dishes when I have dim sum.
6. Shrimp Noodle Crepe - Best noodle crepe I've tried.
7. Lemongrass and Ginger Oyster - Oyster by itself was the size of my palm.
8. Stuffed Crab Claw - I broke my chopstick trying to cut this. It was massive!
Service was very fast with the carts, they constantly filled our water glasses, replaced my broken chopstick and reminded me that I forgot my leftovers. I thought they were great! Food was on point. Now I just need more dim sum buddies!

FBI - out fighting terrorists?

To contact us Click HERE
Back in June I asked the FBI for a copy of a December 3, 2010 letter that Undersheriff Andy Zinke sent to the Chicago office. Why did I ask the FBI?

Because Andy Zinke can't find his copy. Now, why can't an important letter from the McHenry County Sheriff's Department to the FBI be found? The Sheriff's Department must have made a diligent search for it. Even prodding by the Illinois Attorney General and the McHenry County State's Attorney couldn't make them find it.

Where is it? How could the Undersheriff send a letter to the FBI and not keep a copy of it? From what computer was it sent? His own? His laptop? His home computer? His administrative assistant's?

What caused that letter to vanish?

Since he couldn't find it, I asked the FBI for it. Why would they have it? Because on January 4, 2011, Angela Byers, Assistant Special Agent in Charge (Chicago), wrote to Zinke, saying that Special Agent in Charge Robert D. Grant "had had the opportunity to carefully review your December 3, 2010, letter".

On June 14, 2012, I filed a FOIA request with the FBI. Nothing happened. I followed up in a month On July 11, 2012, the Washington office of the FBI wrote that they would respond to my request.
I think it was in August that I followed up by phone and was told the response time could take 118 days.

I followed up again today. Using the online follow-up form on the FBI's website, this is the response: "The FBI's FOI/PA Program is processing your request in accordance to the Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts guidelines." That automated response is, of course, worthless!

So then I called the FOIA number, (540) 868-4593 - twice. After enduring the lengthy message twice, the recording tone sounded and I was immediately disconnected!

I sure hope they are out fighting terrorists.

Plea deal avoids jury trial

To contact us Click HERE
On September 12 I posted an article titled "No time to be nonchalant", and today a reader sent this comment to that article. The comment is too good to be missed.

"Well today...a career criminal, 2 time felon who should have been put in prison last year...arrested on close to 30 charges in 3 years. Go to the County Public case Access site and look up case 10CM002397, and for further info look at the perps name and do a check on his history on the same site. Amazing. The whole neighborhood is once again let down by the office! This last time he should have been revoked for the last set of conditions they placed on his 3rd felony charge 2 years back. He was set to go to trial tomorrow on 5 counts. 3 assault and 2 resisiting arrest where the police suffered the punches. The states \Attorney let this guy plead out...again! And guess what he got? he gets 24 days jail to be served on 12 weekens. And a $250.00 fine! Now, they DID place more conditions...however conditions have been set in several of this mans cases prior and he has broken them all pretty much. So what do they do in spite of the promises that this time they would make no deals and allow no pleas? They make a deal and allow more conditions. And each time this guy gets away with something, he escalates into a more agressive and dangerous stance. So, I agree. This should have gone to tril tomorrow ( the victims by the way ahd NO say at all ) and were told they had no clue of the legal system or law when they emailed to complain! They still have a slight chance to revoke his last parole...but I highly doubbt it. My opinion is...that maybe this was part of the back room deal? Only time will tell... "

Case No. 10CM002397 was filed October 9, 2010, with a Charge Date of October 8, 2010, by the Oakwood Hills Police Department. The defendant was Charles E. Braun, now 49. Braun was originally appointed a Public Defender, and the case meandered along with the usual continuances and jury trial demands, and then in February 2012 Braun retained a private attorney, David A. Ullrick.

A jury trial was scheduled for today and, as often happened, everything ground to a halt with a plea deal.

The rest of the story will be available tomorrow, after the Circuit Court online records are updated.

The charges in the court record do not reflect assault on a peace officer. There are two counts of resisting arrest and three charges of assault.

When are the court's going to put a stop to this nonsense? Why should two years of continuances pass and preparation for a jury trial, and then a deal is made at the 11th hour? Almost every defendant demands a jury trial, which clogs the court calendars. Then they deal on the day a trial is to start.

Judges should say, "Decide if you want a jury trial. If you ask for one, then you are going to get one. Period." And then no deals at the last minute.

SBS-Woodstock ... what is it?

SBS = Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday-Woodstock is a promotion to support local and small business on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (the day after "Black Friday") which, this year, is November 24.

Families are estimated to spend approximately $700 on the Christmas holiday gift-giving. Why not spend at least $50 of it with a local, hometown, Woodstock small business?

Flowers are great gifts - call Apple Creek Flowers
A new bedroom suite would be nice - visit Woodstock Furniture
How about a newspaper gift to an out-of-town friend - call The Woodstock Independent
How about a gift certificate for a custom, highly-personalized, family photo album - call Gus Philpott for information about SendOutCards

What if you spend just 10% of your gifting money right here in Woodstock? Why go to a big box store in Crystal Lake, Algonquin or McHenry? Let them draw from their own communities.

Spearheading this effort in Woodstock in John Trione, General Manager of The Woodstock Independent. An organizational meeting was held this morning at Stage Left Cafe.

Watch for logos indicating participation at Woodstock businesses. Tell the merchant why you showed up on November 24. When you shop locally, you help keep our town "alive" and people employed.

See information on Facebook at "Small Business Saturday-Woodstock".

Businesses can get information and download free window signs at www.smallbusinesssaturday.com

I had the opportunity to visit with Jim Harrison today about his plans to be a candidate for the Republican Party's nomination for Sheriff of McHenry County.

Jim is a lawyer in Woodstock and is a former deputy in the McHenry County Sheriff's Department in the 1990s. Following an on-duty automobile accident when he was responding to a reported accident with injuries (Jim was running up Route 23 at night and topped a hill to find a herd of deer in the roadway), he went to law school and changed careers.

In addition to his law practice which has a heavy emphasis on employment law, he teaches Constitutional Law at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago.

Jim's campaign is organizing and will become active after the first of the year.

Watch for more news in January and into 2013.

Oh, boy. Tonight I received a text message that I had won a $1,000 Best Buy Gift Card.

Why should I be suspicious? The text was from Best Buy.

Or was it? The text was from www.bestbuyprizes.net and directed me to that website to enter a code and claim my $1,000 Gift Card.

Ever hear of smishing?

It is defined on BestBuy's website (www.bestbuy.com) in the Privacy Notice. It's like "phishing" but utilizes a text message, rather than an email. BestBuy knows about these scams and already has the warnings posted on its website.

I was extra cautious, because six weeks ago I made a purchase in a BestBuy store in Annapolis, and the same day my Discover Card was used for three fraudulent purchases - two online dating sites and one escort service in New York City.

The lesson? Watch your credit card statements carefully and question all unknown charges.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Vote "No"
Who is behind the "McHenry County Republicans for Lower Taxes"? This is the name of the organization, if there is one, that is on the "Vote for County Executive" signs springing up around the County.

If you see someone planting one of those signs, ask him (or her) who they are and where they got the signs. And let Cal Skinner and me know what you learn.

"McHenry County Republicans for Lower Taxes" is not known to the Republican Party of McHenry County, according to Mike Tryon.

State Rep. Jack Franks is pushing the referendum on the question of a County Executive. I wonder if he knows who is behind the signs.

"McHenry County Republicans for Lower Taxes" surely looks like an assumed name to me, yet the McHenry County Clerk's office doesn't have a registration for it.

Does that mean that all the signs can be picked up and destroyed?

The Illinois Secretary of State's website doesn't show any record for it.

Is it a fictitious group or a sham?

Publishing an image of the sign does not constitute any endorsement of the referendum.

Maximum bet at gaming terminals

To contact us Click HERE
Ah, how sly some people are.

At a recent Woodstock City Council meeting, when the folks from the Triple 7 video-gaming group were making their pitch to the Council, a woman with Triple 7 told the Council that the maximum bet is $2.00.

I took that to mean that you could bet $2.00 at a time. If you realized you were being a sucker and wasting your money, you could stop betting.

The Page 1 article in the Northwest Herald shows the owner of the Hub Lounge in Harvard at the first gaming machine permitted in McHenry County. The article starts with "Tom Orr inserted a $5 bill..."

Wait a minute! Didn't she say the maximum bet is $2.00?

Tom played a $2 bet, then a second; he lost both. Then he put in $10 more. Then it says he "cashed out with $40". Does that mean he walked away with $40 more than he started with? Or that he walked away with $40? After putting how much in the machine?

Check out the photo of the front of the machine in Harvard. "The BIGGER your BET, the more WINS you'll GET."

Should it read, "The bigger your bet, the bigger fool you are"?

So what the woman told the City Council was true. I guess. What she didn't tell them was that players can deposit $5.00 or $10.00 (or more?) of the family's bread and milk money and then waste it away in $2.00 bets.

And no one on the City Council asked.

And Woodstock has already approved these money-suckers for our little town. Err, city.

Merit Commission - no October meeting

To contact us Click HERE
The regular Monthly Meeting of the McHenry County Sheriff's Department Merit Commission has been canceled. It was scheduled to meet Thursday, October 11, at 9:30AM, its new meeting time.

The announcement of the cancellation notification carried the wrong time. It was addressed to All Interested Parties - it's interesting (to me) that it was not sent to me. No surprise there, though.

The cancellation of this meeting means that Greg Pyle's termination will not come up, and no other major disciplinary problems are apparently lurking within the walls of the Sheriff's Department.

Did the Sheriff investigate any criminal offenses against Det. Jason Novak, such as whether a witness (a Confidential Information) was coerced in any way to participate in the oral sex with the detective that is reported to the Court in a recent Motion to Suppress Evidence. The C.I. was allegedly at Det. Novak's residence within hours of her boyfriend's release from McHenry County Jail.

Not only was that sexual involvement between the detective and the C.I. handled quietly, Novak got only a ten-day suspension (and then reportedly got substantial over-time, which would have made up for some, if not all, of his lost pay) and was taken off the detective list and put on patrol.

Had Nygren given Novak 31 days off or fired him, which is what he should have done, the matter would have gone to the Merit Commission over a year ago. Instead, it stayed under the covers until the defendant's attorney put it before the Court. Now Judge Prather, after she is done blushing from reading the graphic description in the Motion, will rule on the Motion on October 18.

The Merit Commission used to be there to protect the public. That language in the Mission of the Merit Commission was changed recently, apparently without the knowledge of the Commission itself.

Who re-wrote the Mission or Purpose of the Merit Commission?

Jack Franks comes calling

To contact us Click HERE
Before 9:30am Jack Franks called me. Well, actually, he didn't call me; it was his voice -- on a robo-call. Can I count that as a call from my State Rep.?

The pitch was to elect a County Executive and "stop ever-increasing property taxes." And to get a "government that will be accountable to the people" and "actually lower your taxes."

I may have been born at night, but I wasn't born last night, Jack.

I do not see how electing a "County Executive" is going to lower my taxes or give me a government that is accountable to the people. Tell me how this works again.

The sponsor's name is on the signs now appearing around the County in the public way. Maybe I should write "in the public's way." The sponsor is "McHenry County Republicans for Lower Taxes."

I called the County Clerk's office today, and they have no record of a filing for this group as an assumed name. I found no registration on the Secretary of State website under not-for-profits. As I understand it, you can't just slap a name on a sign and not have it traceable to a business or person. Can you?

I know. I'll check with Mike Tryon. He'll know.

Huntley man in hurry for Sprint deal

To contact us Click HERE
An 84-year-old man in Huntley must have been in a hurry for Sprint's latest deal on wheels, because he couldn't wait for the store to open. Sprint doesn't offer drive-in or drive-up services yet, so far as I know.

Sprint's store on route 47 at Algonquin Road suffered a hit, and the man's car had very heavy front-end and hood damage. The article in the Northwest Herald said the 84-year-old man hit the gas instead of the brake, when he was trying to park in front of the store. There is a photo in the print edition of the paper, and you can see the photo and read the article here.

He didn't just roll up and tap the brick wall. He hit it. The article says no charges are expected to be filed by Huntley Police.

Huh?

No charges? OK, so it must have happened on private property where, without a Vehicular Control Agreement, the Huntley Police would be unable to enforce State traffic laws. This shows the clear need for every community to seek such an Agreement with shopping centers, small and large.

The Village of Algonquin has a very good plan and expects all new businesses to enter into Agreements for enforcement.

Apparently, Huntley does not, and I know that Woodstock does not.

Why would an 84-year-old driver hit the gas and not the brake? I can think of several reasons. I don't know the man involved. Is he mobility challenged? Does he find walking hard and perhaps even use a can or a walker? Does he have trouble moving his leg and/or foot quickly from one pedal to another? Does he have leg problems to the extent that he cannot feel the pressure of his foot on the accelerator or brake?

At the very least, he should be cited for re-examination at the driver's license bureau. Let's hope they would do more there than just test his eyes and pass him. I wonder if there is a checkmark on the Examiner's form for "competence to operate a motor vehicle".

Pyle remains in custody; still employed?

To contact us Click HERE
Greg Pyle, free on bond out of McHenry County Jail, remains in custody in Boone County (Ill.) Jail on Federal charges. There was a rumor floating around last week that he had been released on bond, but that's all it was - a rumor.

Is Pyle still employed as a deputy sheriff of the McHenry County Sheriff's Department? In the absence of any media release (why is Sheriff Nygren so quiet on this one?) or leak to the Northwest Herald, it must be assumed that Pyle is still on the rolls of MCSD as an employee.

A previous newspaper article reported that Nygren was going to "let" Pyle resign when his benefits ran out, which "just coincidentally" occurred on the same day that the Feds arrested him. That arrest by the Feds is what landed Pyle in Boone County Jail on a no-bond order.

What are the odds on such a "coincidence"? Where is Jimmy the Greek, when you need him?

There are some who think there ought to be a careful accounting of the way that Pyle continued to be paid $7,000/month after his first arrest in January. There are serious questions about whether he should have been able to collect vacation and sick pay while still an employee. Don't employees have to quit to get that? And don't they get it in a lump-sum payment, after careful calculations and withholding for taxes?

As far as Nygren "letting" Pyle resign, Nygren will have people laughing in his face if he shows up in McHenry County. Why isn't Nygren dropping the hammer on Pyle? Why isn't Nygren standing up for law and order? For honesty? For integrity? Why hasn't Nygren ever hauled Pyle before the his Merit Commission?

Beth Bentley - Week 127!

To contact us Click HERE
Week 127! Beth Bentley, of Woodstock, Ill., has been missing since about May 23, 2010!!!

Who is involved in finding her?

Woodstock (Ill.) Police Department
Mount Vernon (Ill.) Police Department
Centralia (Ill.) Police Department
Jefferson County (Ill.) Sheriff's Department
Illinois State Police, Investigations (Zone 7? Zone 1?)

Did any of them interview Nathan Ridge and Ryan Ridge, brothers that Jenn Wyatt and Beth purported visited in Mount Vernon on the fateful week-end in May 2010? Did Ryan or Nathan tell police whether or not they saw Beth early Friday morning, May 21, 2010, after Jenn and Beth supposedly drove all night from Woodstock to Mount Vernon?

It's 330 miles from Woodstock to Mount Vernon. What time did they leave Woodstock? What route did they take? Where did they stop? What tolls were paid? Where did they buy gas? Who drove and how far? Did both drive? How many miles were put on the rental car? Was there a rental car? What time did they arrive in Mount Vernon?

Beth's car was parked inside Jenn's garage that week-end. Did investigators inventory her car after taking the missing-person report on the evening of May 24, 2010? Did investigators even go through Jenn's rental house at 749 Tara Drive, Woodstock? Ever take a specially-trained sniffer dog into the house? Down into the basement?

This case continues to be classified as a Missing Person case by the Woodstock Police Department.

I say "classified", not "treated". If you are treating a case as a Missing Person case, don't you ask the public for help? Don't you remind the public that the Person is still missing? The November 11, 2010 flier is still posted on the PD's website, but with no further information than was originally posted. The expiration date for the flier is now May 11, 2013, which is 2 1/2 years after the flier was put on the PD's website.

Now that's optimistic, isn't it?

The flier states that rewards of $2,000 are offered by the Woodstock and McHenry County CRIMESTOPPERS (sic), but there may no longer be a Woodstock Area Crime Stoppers group.

Earlier this year I was told it had folded and that the remaining funds had been transferred to Crime Stoppers for McHenry County. I guess that trims the reward to $1,000. At one time there was a total of $5,000 offered as a reward.

In checking the Illinois Secretary of State's website today, the Woodstock Area Crime Stoppers, Inc. is still listed as Active. The next Annual Report Filing Date is December 15. Maybe they are just going to let it dissolve involuntarily, which would make it harder (impossible?) and more expensive to resurrect, if interested parties showed up in the future.

Happy News + Michigan Recap

To contact us Click HERE
For those of you that don't already know...we're engaged! It's been a long but wonderful road (next month will be 8 years together), and he finally popped the question when we were in Michigan visiting his brother. We drove up to Traverse City near Lake Michigan (4 hours north of Ann Arbor/Detroit) to check out Sleepy Bear Dunes and wineries. He asked me along this quiet sandy beach, and I said yes. Thank you to everyone that has supported us! I guess I need to figure out a new nickname for him since 'The bf' doesn't apply anymore...
If you're up in the area, visit Chateau Chantal and Chateau Grand Traverse. They are beautiful wineries that you can also stay at.

While up in Traverse City, we went to Frenchie's Famous (3 pics on the left) for their famous pastrami sandwiches. Best I've ever had in my life! FYI, the dining room only seats 8 people and is always packed. We stopped by 7 Monks Taproom to celebrate! Nice bar with amazing food.
While back in Ann Arbor, we went out to eat a lot! I know this isn't the typical format I use for my recaps, but I'll spare you guys since we went to MI earlier this year.

Try Curry Up (cute name) for fast, delicious and spicy Indian food!

We got to go to a University of Michigan Football game! OMG the "The Big House" was overwhelming. It fits 120,000 people! Lots of UM pride in Ann Arbor. My college experience as a Terp was nothing like this.

After the game, we grabbed pizza at New York Pizza Depot (NYPD, haha), which was ok, but seemed to be a popular pizza place around campus.
The best pie ever at Achatz! All handmade pies. We bought a Four Berry pie with Michigan cherries, and I was in heaven.
Thankfully we missed the long line wrapping around Zingerman's Deli when we got lunch! We split a roast beef sandwich at one of Ann Arbor's most popular deli's. It was good but I wouldn't wait in line for it.

While we were walking around town, we stopped into Jolly Pumpkin for some local brews on tap. The Bam Biere (left) was one of the best beers I've ever tasted, and is one of Men's Journals' Top 25 Beers in the US.

If you want to try a local coffee chain, Sweetwaters has delicious drinks! We needed our caffeine fix, and this hit the spot.

Angelo's is still my favorite place in the world for a mind-blowing reuben. I refused to share!

For good and cheap sushi, we went to Saica for dinner with the family. They give you tons of food!
Thanks for reading and more posts to come!

42. The Unofficial St. Patrick's day in Champaign Urbana

To contact us Click HERE
